Phantom Black & Silver Schnauzers ARE the same as a Black & Silver Schnauzer.

Phantom Black & Silvers are
NOTseparate Color.

What are Phantom Black & Silvers?
ALL black and silver schnauzers are born with black bodies and dirty bronze markings on their: muzzle, eyebrows, across their chest, down their legs, feet, inside their ears and underneath their tail. Sometimes these markings do NOT  have that “dirty bronze” appearance at birth but instead their markings are bright, vivid and more “clean” looking at birth – these puppies are referred to as phantom black & silvers.

.

.

Are Black & Silvers and Phantom Black & Silvers 2 Different Colors?
NO. The word “phantom” is used to describe how bright the markings are at birth. That’s it.  Phantom black and silvers schnauzers are NO different than a black and silver schnauzer.  They are NOT 2 separate colors.

.

.

Are Phantom Black & Silvers “Flashier” Then Black & Silvers?
Some Yes and others No. It’s obvious that phantom black and silver schnauzers are more flashier at birth, however, with that said,  traditional black and silver schnauzers WILL OFTEN look just as “flashy” as adults once all their dirty bronze color changes into that silver white. Matter of fact, some traditional black and silver schnauzers may even be more “flashier” as adults then some phantoms. If your trying to find a really super flashy black and silver then keep in mind, it does NOT matter if the puppy was born with “dark and dirty” bronze markings OR “clean and bright” bronze markings. What matters is HOW MUCH bronze they have and if they have any “extra” white outside of the marking pattern. Remember, the more bronze they have – the more white they will have as adults and therefore the flashier they will be.

Phantom Black and Silver

EXAMPLE: Perfect Markings!

See how this puppies markings are clean, bold and bright. This would be considered a perfectly marked phantom black and silver. This puppy will be extremely flashy as an adult with tons of bright white against it’s black body.

See how this puppies markings are a dirty bronze color. This puppy is NOT considered a phantom –  However, not only does this puppy have a lot of dirty bronze but look at how much extra white this puppy has down it’s chest (outside of the normal markings) When this puppy’s dirty bronze markings turns white and blends with all that extra white down it’s chest – WOW!!  This puppy will actually be more “flashy”  then the perfectly marked phantom black  & silver shown above.

See how this puppies markings are a dirty bronze color. This is another example of a black & silver. This puppy is  NOT considered a phantom. However, with that said, look at how much extra white this puppy has outside of the normal “marking” pattern. WOWIEE, this puppy will be ultra-flashy! Even more flashier then the phantom shown above.

brielle_4Although this puppy may appear solid black, it actually is a black and silver. If you look closely at it’s chest you can see there is only a tiny thin strip of bronze. This puppy will NOT be as flashy or have as much white as the examples shown above –  NOT because it’s markings are the  “dirty bronze color” but because it only has a thin strip of dirty bronze. Remember, it does NOT matter how dirty the markings are, what matters is how much dirty bronze they have. The more dirty bronze they have, the flashier they will be as adults.

HERE ARE (3) NON-PHANTOM black and silver puppies as newborns. ALL that bronze will grow out and be replaced with bright white hair. So all 3 of these puppies will be very flashy as adults.

HERE ARE (4) NON-PHANTOM black and silver puppies at 8 weeks. I repeat, these puppies are NOT phantom black and silvers. These 3 puppies are traditional black and silver puppies. You can see how their dirty bronze hair is growing OUT and you can see how the white hair is starting to come in.

HERE ARE (3) PHANTOM black and silver newborn puppies. See how clean, bold and bright their markings already are at birth.

HERE ARE (4) PHANTOM black and silver puppies at 8 weeks.  Yes, these are phantom black and silver puppies. As you can see, their markings turn white FASTER so they appear “flashier” at a younger age. Whereas the traditional black and silvers take longer to turn white.

IMPORTANT – Below are photos of 2 newborn schnauzer puppies. One is considered a traditional  black & silver schnauzer and the other is considered a phantom black & silver schnauzer. With that said, you can clearly see that they have the EXACT SAME MARKINGS it’s just the traditional black & silver schnauzer markings are dark & dirty looking where the phantom black & silver schnauzer markings are clean, bold and bright. Just so you understand – Even though the “phantom” one looks more flashy now – by the time these 2 are adults, you will NOT be able to tell which one was the “phantom” and which one was the “traditional.”

BOTH THESE PUPPIES WILL LOOK THE EXACT SAME AS ADULTS!!

So Will ALL Black and Silver Schnauzers Have the Same Amount of White?
No. If they are born with very little dirty bronze markings OR they have a really thin strip of bronze markings (instead of a thicker strip) then they will have less white as adults. The more bronze they have, the more white their markings will be. Honestly, whether you pick a black and silver puppy with heavy bronze markings or light bronze markings – this color (in general) is one of the most popular in demand colors.
