What Are Chocolate Schnauzers?
Basically chocolate schnauzers are a “brown” version of a black schnauzer. Chocolate schnauzers are born with solid chocolate hair. Just like humans, most chocolate schnauzer hair will lighten when they get older. They have brown or green eyes, chocolate nose and chocolate pads. It is acceptable and often desired by families for them to have white on their feet (which is often referred to as “boots”) or white on their chest (which is often referred to as a diamond) or a a little bit of white on their chin. It’s completely a personal preference if you like chocolate  schnauzers with or without white on on their chest / feet or chin. Either way is extremely popular.

IMPORTANT INFO TO KNOW ABOUT CHOCOLATE (LIVER) SCHNAUZERS….

Another thing you should know about liver (chocolate) schnauzers is that sometimes they can get white hairs that grow up next to the chocolate hairs. This is DIFFERENT from just having a white patch on their chest, feet or chin like above. These white hairs actually grow up along the side of the chocolate hairs covering the entire body.  This can happen when they are puppies but it is more common for it to start showing up when they are an adult. It is impossible for the breeder to know which puppies will do this unless the puppy is already starting to have the white hairs at the breeders.  Liver (chocolate) schnauzers that end up having the white hairs intermixed with their chocolate hairs will always end up a lighter shade of chocolate as adults then the ones that  don’t get them. Neither one is better or prettier. Both are popular as it’s completely a cosmetic appeal and personal preference asto which you prefer.

EXAMPLE of an adult chocolate schnauzer that DOES NOT has the white hairs growing up next to her chocolate hairs and has NOT faded or lightened up. Again, it is impossible for the breeder to know if the chocolate puppy your buying will get the white hairs growing up next to the chocolate hairs, or lighten up, or stay darker. It has NOTHING to do with the “quality” of the bloodline or pedigree. The chocolate color is just alittle unpredictable, even in other breed of dogs that are chocolate do the same thing. Like poodles, yorkies, etc… Regardless of what shade the chocolates turn out, they continue to be in high demand, extremely popular and just beautiful whatever shade they end up being!
