Liver Pepper (vs) Liver Tan & Solid Chocolate Schnauzers

Alot of families are always asking us the difference between the Liver Pepper Schnauzers and the Liver Tan OR Solid Chocolate Schnauzers. Liver Peppers (just like Salt & Peppers) have many variations. They can "appear" to be dark chocolate (resembling the solid Chocolate Schnauzers) OR at the other end of the spectrum, they can be marked similar to the Liver Tans. It's common for people to get them confused because they can look so much alike, especially at birth. Just remember that the word "liver" basically means "chocolate." So clearly they are all going to be in the chocolate colored family with green eyes, chocolate nose & chocolate pads. 

So what's the difference?.... .

It's NOT how dark of chocolate they are, because they can ALL vary from light to dark.
The difference is that the "Liver Peppers" DO have banded hair,
where they Liver Tans & Soild Chocolates do NOT.
Sometimes this banded hair is obvious, while other times it's more subtle.

Let's Start with Comparing ~
Liver Tan (vs) Liver Pepper
 
NOW KEEP IN MIND ~ Liver Peppers have MANY variations. So these are just examples of those that are similar to the Liver Tan's. Bascially to keep it easy -  the Liver Tan is a CHOCOLATE version of the Black & Silver so they will have NO banded hair. WHERE the Liver Pepper is the CHOCOLATE version of the Salt & Pepper which DOES have the banded hairs.
For this example - The Liver Pepper is the (lighter one) ~ the Liver & Tan is the (darker one)
    

Here is a photo of 2 Liver Peppers next to a Liver Tan .

Now in these 2 pictures below we took each Liver Pepper & put in by the Liver & Tan
As you can see, sometimes it's an obvious difference & other times they are really similar .

     

 

Now Let's Take a CLOSE UP Look at their Hair. 

Clearly you can see that the puppy on the left DOES have the banded hairs where the puppy on the right is just a soild chocolate all the way to the roots .

This Example below is NOT so Obvious .
You have to look careful to see that the one on the left has banded hair, where the one on the right does not. So even though they APPEAR to be almost the same, the one on the left is a Liver Pepper and the one on the right is a solid chocolate.
